What is .eu?

.eu was launched in 2006 and is the common extension of the European Union. EURid supports domain names in all official EU languages, including Cyrillic and Greek script.

Registry: EURid (Diegem, Belgien).

Who can register?

EU citizens (including those living outside the EU), residents of the EU or EEA, and companies and organisations established there may register.

Rules and technology

A .eu name is 2 to 63 characters long; hyphens in the third and fourth position are only allowed for IDN names. Transfers use an authorisation code. EURid checks eligibility on a sample basis and may request proof of residence or seat.

Who is .eu for?

For offerings aimed at several EU countries and for companies that want to highlight their European focus — a good fit with hosting on EU servers.

Pricing without renewal shock

A .eu domain is planned at €10.68 per year at Sigma Hosting, including 20% VAT. The renewal price is identical: no teaser offer in the first year and no surprise on the second invoice. A transfer from another provider also costs €10.68 and extends the term by one year.

Domain registration is in preparation; until the registrar is connected, the prices are planned prices. You can take your domain to another provider at any time with the auth code.

Our tip

If your eligibility changes (e.g. company seat outside the EU), you must update the holder data, otherwise the domain may be withdrawn.
